Wide awake in the early hours of the morning, armed with a can of baked beans and a muffin, I watched Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Perhaps the highlight for me was Biden and Harris, who sat stony-faced and appeared to only clap when the ceasefire in Gaza was mentioned. A string of has-been performers came out, and there was one strong vocal performance from Carrie Underwood sung without music, due to a glitch. Along the way, we got a few ex-presidents, Melania Trump dressed like Joan Collins from Dynasty, Barron Trump looking like a young Donald job hunting at Trump Tower, and all the billionaires looking like filthy rich old men 🤑. This included an over-excited Elon Musk and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Donald came on tanned and said pretty much what he said last time, and everyone thanked God many times, including me, but mainly because my baked beans were starting to do their job! After a brief break from the telly, when I came back, Donald declared there were only two genders. I assume he means Rich and Poor… He spoke of making Americans rich and proud again. I assume he was talking to all the billionaires sitting in the front row, and everyone stood up and cheered for the USA and the new golden age. I was by then only just getting over my shock about the song YMCA, which I only just learned was not a gay anthem! (What a surprise! 😦 I’d better rewatch the video. My gaydar must be off!) For your info – Donald danced to YMCA the night before at the pre-rally. That’s right young men, there’s no need to feel down, according to Donald and the Republicans, and the very straight Village People. Anyway, it was an extremely entertaining show regardless of politics, left or right!
As the sun began to rise, I couldn’t help but reflect on the experience of witnessing such a spectacle. No matter where we stand politically, moments like these are a testament to the unpredictable and often bizarre nature of the world around us. Here’s to hoping for four years filled with unity, understanding, and perhaps a little less of the drama queen antics from Trump, which we saw the first time around.
